Friday night at Robin Hoods Retreat - visited on a promo, but will certainly be back very soon.

A slightly forbidding exterior, but the welcome was warm and service friendly, chatty and reasonably quick. There was a wide range of drinks on offer, if you are a beer drinker, you are in for a real treat.

The house wine was good, always a good indicator.

Food was beautifully presented, yet managed to taste even better than it looked.

Take the menu with a pinch of salt; a bland sounding 'Tomato salad' consisted of tasty tomatoes, served with whipped goats cheese, tiny rings of caremelized onions, and more. Stunning combination!

Mains were good with fresh and well combined ingredients and sweets were to die for.

I have worked in a wide range of pubs all across brisol and i happen to know that the robin hood staff are one of the best for keep their ales clean and fresh. i know this because i recently worked at the robin hood and was involved in making sure the beers were kept to a high standard. the ale lines are cleaned once the barrel is empty which depending on the beer and the night can range from one to four days, which is well with in the time limit of how long ales should be served for after the first pint (no longer than a week). unfortunatly i can only imagine that you have been unlucky with your ale selection as when the barrels are nearly empty the flavour leaves them and they turn a little lifeless. however the staff were/are always willing to give you a pint from a different ale if you are unsatisfied.

What a shame this place is owned by an elusive pub company and is therefore forced to price it's beers at a premium. I am on good terms with the management and know the lines are cleaned every time the ales changes, which is when the beer runs out. Lagers are cleaned on regular basis too. Don't let this deter you and give it another try as is nice cosy pub with great atmosphere. A must for all ale fans!

This was one of my favourite pubs but the menu could do with refreshing and I fully agree with last comment on the current state of the beers . They all seem to be in bad nick - flat, stale tasting and expensive- Not sure the present bar management know how to care for real ales e.g. importance of regular line cleaning . Consequently I go there far less often, which is a pity because the pub could be so much better - and was much better.

I use this pub a lot unfortunately it seems to have gone down hill recently. Beer is always flat and over priced and the food is very expensive.
