Just enjoyed a fabulous meal at the Anchor this lunchtime. My husband and I devoured steak and kidney pie with stilton topping while enjoying the roaring log fire. My husband particularly enjoyed the Butcombe bitter. Looking forward to our next visit.

Not at all welcoming. The chicken was tasty however not enough veg. The Pheasant breast was overcooked as was the duck breast which had to had to be sent back. They didn't seem at all concerned with this and kept us waiting a few moments before they sent it back to the kitchen for a new duck breast to be cooked. By the time it was returned all others had long finished their meals and the plate was left at the bar with no staff showing any urgency to serve it. At no point had anybody asked if everything was ok even after the food had been returned. When they collected the plates they blanked us completely and at no point seemed concerned.

While we appreciate that mistakes are made the way in which it was dealt with and the way we were made to feel like we were causing a fuss means that unfortunately we would never return.

My family and I have frequented this pub on a number of occasions. Every time we have received excellent, friendly service together with outstanding freshly cooked food. If you are fortunate enough to visit when the weather is nice the outside garden area is lovely and the flowers and baskets are really well cared for. It's a great place to chill out, enjoy fabulous food and good company. We are looking forward to our next visit.

The landlord is about as welcoming as a rabid doberman, surly and abrupt in his approach. We left and went to the ship inn just a few minutes walk away and had a fantastic meal with charming hosts.

Caution, this pub has a strict "No Under 18s policy" so is definitely not very family friendly.

My wife and I were recently asked to leave by the landlord because we were with our - beautifully behaved - daughter of seven weeks. And this on a quiet afternoon with only a handful of customers. We were both rather upset and also rather surprised that landlords like this still exist.
