Cool place, good music. Food is ok, but If you don't like the taste of paper, then ask for a plate when ordering, as they will otherwise bring you an impractical paper lined basket containing your food. Sounds messy. It is.

The food at Start the bus is amazing! If you haven't had one of their burgers then you are missing out, they come with hand cut chips and a great big bun. Watch out for the "Legendary" sausage and mash, my girlfriend ordered it and I have to say it's a bit of a shock to see a foot long sausage propped up on top of your mash.
There really is something for everyone at Start the bus, a massive range of draught products, art on the walls, a vintage shop upstairs, markets on the weekend and of course some of the best live music in town, massive acts have played on their tiny little stage.
In the day you can get coffee and sink into a big sofa eat cake and use the free wifi (N.B as with all free wifi hotspots the signal can be a little erratic) the music playing is generally always good and not too loud to intrude on a conversation. The staff are friendly and attentive they all look like the kind of people that would be drinking in there if they weren't working, service times are average as you'd expect from somewhere like this and it's a bit relaxed but we always feel well looked after.

Brilliant! I love this place, the decor, the music, good choice( if a little expensive)of beers, homemade burgers are the $**t!

sometimes have to wait a while to get served and on a busy night can be pretty slow at the bar.

Different to all the usual rubbish/townie bars on this street.

i went to start the bus for sunday lunch yesterday and ordered roast lamb dinner. When it arrived i tucked into it to find that it was raw and pink and bloody beneath its gravy overcoat.

Upon taking it back i was told by the waitress that 'its ok to eat lamb when it's like that'..

personally i don't want to eat raw meat and asked for it to be changed to the vegetarian roast, which was brought to me and i was ok with that.
Then two other people i was with both received lamb that was pink and undercooked.. in the english tradition of not makin a fuss, neither person was confident about asking to send the meat back.

Before having chance to say anything, the bar manager Ben arrived at the table and started to rant about not changing any more meals.

Obviously very defensive, he stood over us all saying that 'thats the way we cook our lamb! we have won awards!' when i interjected to say that the lamb was undercooked, he turned to me and said, with a dismissive wave of his hand 'you are a moron, get out!' ..

Our table of diners was completely shocked by this extreme turn of events.

I asked him if he was seriously thinking that calling a customer 'a moron' was actually appropriate behaviour in a debate over under cooked meat.. he continued calling me a 'moron' and waving his hand at me and saying 'get out!' .

I asked for my money back and stood up from the table, in no mood to stay and take abuse from a jumped up twentysomething with obvious anger management issues and no concept of manners or customer care.

He continued with the verbal abuse as i stood up, with no sign of refunding me and i saw red and walked towards him.

There is no way anyone should be subjected to a verbal tirade over a refusal to eat bad food.

As his voice rose in pitch we scuffled, upon which two other members of staff grabbed my arms and the three of them threw me out onto the

that's called rare meat. it is not 'raw', it is completely safe to eat and most people love slightly pink, tender lamb. if that's your personal preference then fine but don't write a shitty review about start the bus just because they thought their customers palettes were sophisticated enough for pink lamb. you should have sent it back and explained that it was not to your taste, not insulted them by insinuating that they serve dangerous food. no wonder he was angry.

I love this place, it is like a home from home.
There's lots of wierd and wonderful activities going on here, experimental music, craft days and sunday tabletop sales.
There is quite a good choice of draught beers and ciders, and the food is fantastic value - very filling, wholesome and tasty!
