We went to Number 5 The Beach on Saturday, maybe our 8th visit. Booked a table for breakfast at 11.00, requesting an outside table if fine but inside if wet.

When we arrived we were told in no uncertain terms it was company policy not to book tables outside and breakfast finished at 11.00. However they kindly agreed, as a special concession, to take the order.

After 45 minutes the 6 breakfasts finally arrived. One of the breakfasts had a long black hair in the food. The waitress, who put the plate down, saw it being pulled out of the food and was extremely embarrassed. She offered to change it, we accept this sort of thing can occasionally happen and were happy to agree.

The waitress came back and said there was no food left in the kitchen, remember this was 1.00 on Saturday lunchtime. We asked to see a manager or owner. An aggressive lady came, told us to calm down and said no more food would be provided.

We were told we wouldn’t have to pay for the meal that had been taken away, a trifle miffed that one of us would have to sit there without breakfast we first said we wouldn’t pay for any of it, but then as a compromise offered to pay something towards the cost of the meal. We were then told to leave.

Would we go back? Unfortunately definitely not, seven good visits ruined by an overly aggressive attitude and a really badly handled complaint.

If you were there on Saturday we hope we didn’t spoil your meal.

Had an amazing lunch at Five the Beach last weekend. Relaxed atmosphere, best food I have had in ages - fresh, beautiful presentation and affordable. See you there next week!

PS Also had dinner there on a very rare warm evening - sat outside under heated umbrellas with the sea as our back drop - could have been on our hols.

Wow, I have never had such wonderful food. House wine at £9.95, and its good.! Got to be recommended. I live in Clevedon and never thought of going to 5 for an evening meal, thinking it as a daytime cafe, but the service and food were fantastic. Completely and utterly recommended. P. S. If the steak is on, go for it. Melted in my mouth

Love love love this restaurant, it can be very busy and the menu can at times be limited due to it selling out, but this just screams fresh home made food that isn't produced to such a large extent that it affects the quality.

The best cream tea ever and one is enough for two... Staff are wonderful and I would recommend to all my friends.

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Customers are required to spend over £10 to use credit or debit card so take cash if you're after just a cup of tea.

If they're selling the beaded curtain lighting I'd buy them!!

I visited, 5 The Beach on a sunny Sunday for lunch and was very disappointed.

We had a table booked for 1.00pm, three quarters of the menu had been crossed off the blackboard leaving only the more unusual dishes, this resulted in the teenagers with us having filled baguettes as a main.

My main of Guinea fowl was a leg served on salad which I could have eaten twice and cost over £10.00.

The table next to us was booked for 1.30pm, when they arrived they only had one choice of main so got up and walked out.

The staff were friendly but we had to write our own order and take it to the counter.

After finishing our main course we cleared the plates ourselves to a neighbouring table, again we had to take our sweet order to the counter which took forever to be served.

To pay the bill once again we had to go to the counter to request it at which point several slips of paper were pulled from a mass of others, totted up and a figure that I should have been sitting down for was mentioned.

Awful value for money and non existent service.Would I go again?....No

Would I recommend others to?...Certainly not

If I could remove the one star I would..

To day 7th March 2010 I arrived with my wife after the main lunch rush so there were tables available inside and many table free outside.

To our surprise we were told of a 25 minute wait before our order would be taken - we than asked for two coffees and were again told that this would be 25 minutes !

If this is the service they are offering on a quiet Sunday afternoon I dread to think what is is like if it ever gets busy !

Just along the road by the Italian restaurant is a vacant property to let - Ideal for someone to open up and offer good service they would have no competition from "5 The Beach"

Going back ? what do you think ??

Interesting inventive food that you don't need to melt the credit card to enjoy.I have to say Murrey's is also one of my top choices in Clevedon, but unfortunetly the cost of their extremly nice food means only eating their occastionally. Instead I opt for the deli and cook at home.

However, at No 5 The Beech you can enjoy the same high end enjoyable good eating for half the price and potentially eat their several times in one year. Not only the food but the wine list is also well priced and well choosen. For style and indulgence it will still be Murrey's. These two resturants share the top spot for taste but No 5 gets the top table for price.Go there this weekend with your partner and enjoy a hidden delight of Clevedon.
