I'd been looking forward to going to Lockside for quite some time, after it had been recommended by friends.
Well, the opportunity finally arrived when I had a friend visit from Canada - and all I can say is what a disappointment it was.
The breakfast was ok, but it was nothing special - and it certainly wasn't worth the money. The service was poor, and no one seemed remorely interested in the basics - like whether or not another coffee was required. It was a chore to get anyone's attention just to achieve this, and equally bad when trying to get the bill.
My Canadian friend rated the place as about a seven out of ten, and I think they were being generous.
I won't be going back, and nor will I be recommending Lockside to anyone. It's overrated, and living off a reputation that may have been deserved at one time, but it isn't any more.
It's really nothing special, and nothing to write home about.
Sorry, but that's just the way it is.
Wow! Cant believe we waited so long to try Lockside for Dinner!
Have enjoyed many a leisurely breakfast - but was never really sure how it would transfer to Dinner ~It works!
We arrived just after 8 and the place was in full swing, only one table un occupied (it was obvious they were doing something right!) Very warm, comfortable atmosphere - busy without the stress!
We had already whetted our appetites with a sneaky peek of the menu online - and it was a delicious experience.
It's always nice when you find it hard to decide what to eat, because you are spoilt for choice! We shared some bread and olives (copious ammounts of each) while we ummed and arghed over the choices with a bottle of Organic Red.
3 of us plumped for the bubble n squeak with poached eggs, 1 with pancetta and the fourth chose the goats cheese tart.
All good portion sizes, hot and tasty. The service throughout was friendly, polite , unobtrusive and un hurried - timed beautifully!
Main courses arrived: Sea bass, hot, fresh, moist pan fried fillet with a rosemary tomato risotto mmm, a huge sirloin steak cooked to perfection and the vegetarian risotto of broad-beans.
Risotto's can be tricky to get just right - moist, not soggy, creamy, but not too rich - perfect! Another 4 clean plates!Desserts - what a choice!
We had sticky toffee pudding - homemade of course! A delicious creamy white chocolate cheesecake with strawberries - again not over rich, perfect combination in the right consistency.
Coconut ice cream - yummy with real coconut, served with melted chocolate ~ Bounty in a bowl. Rhubarb Crumble & custard - always a winner.
Highly recommend a visit - advisable to book. Will definitely return.Bristol is saturated with restaurants - but finding a good one these days is difficult - we have a gem of a place in Lockside.
I could not fault any of it (which is rar
We love Lockside! The atmosphere is relaxed and informal and manages to feel like a restaurant cafe in the day and a restaurant in the evenings.
The day time menu is great especially anything with Bubble & Squeek and the service is efficient.
It is worth booking for breakfast at the weekends! We actually prefer Lockside for the evening menu where we think they do the best steaks in Bristol.
Other highlights include the Risotto and the figs. With candlelight in the evenings and views up to Clifton Lockside fills and unusual space but one that offers us a relaxed meal away from the centre and one that we keep going back to.
Well done to Coral, Carlos, Stefan and the team!
The bacon and maple syrup pancakes are seriousley good! I know they sound a bit odd but trust me!
