A familiar, family friendly restaurant which has undergone a rebrand to give it wider appeal.

The Venue
Pizza Hut at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway is above the shopping centre's Food Court. A spiral staircase leads you up to this open-fronted restaurant and the dining area stretches across this whole retail unit, making it a fairly decent size. The decor is the same as you would find in any other Pizza Hut - fixed tables in varying sizes, wooden beans and modern furniture.

The People
This Pizza Hut can have a strange atmosphere at times. When the shopping centre below is very busy the noise echoes up into the restaurant. Similarly, if there is a brass band playing down in the food court you'll hear every note which can disrupt your dining.

This restaurant always seems to be busy so you may have a wait. Front of house staff greet and seat you and give you a menu. They're friendly and try to anticipate what you need (often bringing you a fill soft drink refill without you needing to ask).

The Food
Food is tasty here, and the newly launched bigger menu offers a much wider range of dishes. Starters include garlic bread and garlic bread with cheese, chicken wings, potato wedges and dip and tomato and basil soup. These are a nice start to your meal and with costs ranging from £2.79 for garlic bread to around the £4 mark for chicken wings they're cheap enough.

Their large range of various pizzas is still on the menu. Choose from a small individual pizza for one, a medium for two to three people, or a large for three to four servings. All pizzas are made on your choice of base - thin and crisp Italian, deep pan or, for the larger pizzas, a range of cheese stuffed crust options.

Toppings for pizzas can be selected individually to make your own, or have one of the speciality options including meat feast with pepperoni, ham, and spicy beef or super supreme, with black olives, meat, green peppers and mushrooms. Traditional favourites include Hawaiian ham and pineapple. Pizzas are reasonably priced, an individual one costs about £7, a medium about £12 and a large about £14 (depending on toppings).

New additions to the menu include pasta and salads. Pizza Hut now offers a whole page of the menu devoted to several new pasta dishes. Some examples include traditional lasagne, cannelloni, carbonara and more unusual dishes like salmon pasta bake. Portion sizes for these are on the generous side and, at around £8 each, the pasta dishes are a great value option. Bigger 'sharing' platters of some dishes are also available.

A new range of salads is also a feature of this improved menu. As well as the traditional salad bowl (which you can fill yourself from the selection of salad ingredients) you'll find chicken caesar salad, feta and olive, and goats cheese salad as some examples. These cost about £6 to £7 each. Half-sized portions of salads are also available - choose one as a light lunchtime bite or if you fancy one as a side dish to go with your pizza or pasta.

Desserts have also been refreshed in this new menu. Some choices include profiteroles, chocolate fudge cake, or a trip to the ice-cream factory. Desserts are nice, but nothing special, costing around £3 each.

The Drink
A wide variety of soft drinks are available - Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max, 7up and Tango. These are good value at £1.99 each and come with as many free refills as you like. Bottled J20 is also available, as is squash, bottled beer and wine by the glass and bottle.

Prices for alcoholic drinks are reasonable, a large glass of wine costs about £3, a bottle is about a tenner. Fruit smoothies are a new addition to the menu and come in several varieties, and hot drinks are also available if served as part of a meal.

The Last Word
Pizza Hut at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway is a perfect place to go for food after or during a shopping trip. It's good value for money and you know exactly what to expect.
